Ludwigia octovalvis

Ludwigia octovalvis

Brisbane Wildflowers

The “Willow Primrose”, these are straggly, woody herbs that can sprout large buttery-yellow flowers at any time of year. Their flowers are attractive to insects, and on a nearby plant to the one pictured, a small beetle was found thoroughly enjoying the pollen.

Ludwigia are veteran travellers and can be found in tropical areas around the world. However you need not travel to West Africa or Mexico to see them, as they can easily be found growing in marshy soils and sunny creek-sides around Brisbane.
