“Black Walnut”
TREE OVER 15 METRESLarge bushy tree with dark glossy foliage and red, softly hairy new shoots. The bark is pale grey of brown and finely scaly; the trunk does not form buttresses. Small white flowers in spring and summer are followed by large black fruits to 5cm diameter. A near-threatened species, restricted to the Gold-Coast Hinterland and northern NSW, with a separate population near Innisfail.
